YARMOUTH — When is a punt not a punt?

For the Lisbon football team, it was every time Quincy Thompson took a long snap Friday night.

Three times Thompson lined up to punt on fourth down. Three times he opted for the run, gaining 108 yards, including a 64-yard run for a touchdown, to lead Lisbon to a 35-13 victory over Yarmouth in Western Class C action.

Thompson carried 22 times for 257 yards and four touchdowns as the Greyhounds (3-3) rolled up 392 yards — all on the ground — to hand the Clippers (1-5) their fourth straight loss.

“We just can’t get over the hump,” said Yarmouth Coach Chris Pingitore.

“We were moving the ball well, making some plays, but then mistakes kill us. Boy does momentum shift fast, especially with young guys. We’ll learn from this and keep moving forward.”

Moving forward was precisely what the Greyhounds were doing.

“It was a full team effort tonight,” said Lisbon Coach Dick Mynahan.

Kyle Sheehan ran the ball eight times for 62 yards and a touchdown, and Mason Haley added another 61 on 11 carries. But the big weapon was Thompson.

“I have the option to kick, run or throw, depending on what I see. If I see an opening, I just take it,” Thompson said. “I got some great blocks.”

Chris Uhl led the Clippers with 124 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Brady Neujahr completed 11 of 18 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.

After fumbling away the ball on the third play of their opening series, the Clippers fell victim to the fake punt that resulted in a 14-yard run for Thompson. Four plays later, quarterback Kyle Bourget attempted a rare pass on fourth-and-6 at the Yarmouth 22, but the ball fell incomplete.

Yarmouth then went to work on a 13-play, 88-yard drive, ending, appropriately enough, when Uhl drove in from the 2 for a 7-0 lead. It was fitting for Uhl to score, as he carried the ball seven times for 53 yards on the drive. It was his first game this season, following a long recovery from a concussion.

Thompson replied early in the second quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run that capped an eight-play, 68-yard drive. The first of Zach Stevens’ five PATs tied it at 7-7.

Thompson gave the Greyhounds the lead for good about six minutes later, pounding in from the 1 for a 14-7 lead.

“They were fast off the ball,” said Yarmouth linebacker Thomas Lord. “They had an awesome offensive line.”

Thompson broke the game open early in the third quarter. From the punt formation, he took the snap and broke for a 64-yard run that pushed the lead to 21-7. With 30 seconds left in the quarter, he tore off a 27-yard run to make it 28-7.

Sheehan capped scoring for the Greyhounds with an 8-yard run with 6:30 left.

Neujahr cut the lead to 35-13 when he hit Rhys Eddy with a 17-yard strike to cap a 13-play, 76-yard drive.
