The Maine USATF fall cross country series begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at two locations: Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook and Saxl Park in Bangor. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. with a course walk at 1. Meet registration is $4 and Maine USATF registration is $15. Race distances are 2K for 8 and under, 3K for the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions, 4K for 13-14, and 5K for 15 and older. The Mountain RAID, the third and final stop of the RAID Series, will be held Sunday at Sunday River Resort. The Mountain RAID is made up of three events, 4- and 12-mile trail races and an obstacle race. Both trail races begin at 9 a.m. and the obstacle race starts at 1 p.m. Onsite registration will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the South Ridge Lodge, as well as on race day. The Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame will honor two championship high school basketball teams — the 1973-74 Camden-Rockport boys and 1981-82 Lincoln Academy girls — during its annual banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Rockland Elks Lodge. The event also will feature the induction of George Gould, James Lombardo, Andy Williamson III and Albert “Foggy” Bennett into the Hall of Fame.
