BIDDEFORD – Ashley Hickey of West Gardiner put home a rebound 10:46 into the first overtime Thursday to lift the University of New England over Southern Maine 2-1 in a college field hockey game.

Southern Maine (5-8) took the lead in the 28th minute on a goal by Allison Ward. Hannah Tavella got the equalizer for the Nor’easters (5-5) with 3:42 left in regulation, assisted by Hayley LaPointe and Emily Koehler.

Kayla Kennedy had seven saves and Whitney Mower added a defensive save with no time left for the Huskies, who were outshot 27-5 by the Nor’easters.

SMCC 11, UMAINE-AUGUSTA 0: Jonathan D’Haiti collected three goals and one assist, and Wadhah Al-Shammari finished with two goals and two assists as Southern Maine Community College cruised over UMaine-Augusta at South Portland.

Zach Napsey, Jacob Smith and Jake Freeman added one goal and one assist apiece for the Seawolves (8-3), who rang up a 56-1 advantage in shots.

HARTFORD 3, MAINE 0: Amelia Pereira collected one goal and one assist, and Sidney Spremullo and Caroline Dixon added one goal apiece as the Hawks (8-2-3, 4-0) downed the Black Bears (5-5-2, 1-2-1) in an America East game at Orono.

Lauren Swant made five saves for the Black Bears, who had a 15-13 advantage in shots.

ST. JOSEPH’S JV 3, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 1: The St. Joseph’s College junior varsity team scored three unanswered goals during an 18-minute stretch in the second half to rally past the Seawolves (5-4) at South Portland.

MISSOURI: Freshman wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, the consensus No. 1 incoming recruit in the nation this season, and two other freshmen with the Tigers were arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession.

Also, receiver Levi Copelin and linebacker Torey Boozer were taken into custody, and face charges for possession of 35 grams or fewer of marijuana. All three were released on summons.

TEXAS CHRISTIAN: Quarterback Casey Pachall was suspended indefinitely, hours after he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated — his second brush with trouble this year and one that clouds the 15th-ranked Horned Frogs’ (4-0) push for a Big 12 title.

Coach Gary Patterson announced the suspension, saying his quarterback “obviously needs help.”

THE NEW YEAR’S Day bowl game at the Cotton Bowl has a new sponsor.

The Heart of Dallas Bowl will debut Jan. 1 with teams from the Big 12 and Big Ten.

The Dallas-based nonprofit was announced as the sponsor replacement for TicketCity.

The previous sponsor held the title the first two years for a game created to fill a void after the Cotton Bowl left its namesake facility for Cowboys Stadium in nearby Arlington, Texas.

The game on Jan. 1, 2013, will feature teams from the Big Ten and Conference USA.

ARKANSAS: Coach John L. Smith amended his bankruptcy filing, listing $40.7 million in debts — up from $25.7 million just last month.

Smith filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Sept. 6 after a series of real estate investments went bad.
