High winds caused widespread power outages Sunday to customers across the state.

By late Sunday afternoon Central Maine Power Company reported that more than 4,000 customers in York and Cumberland counties were without power.

But by 7 p.m. the number of customers had been cut back to just 485 customers.

CMP’s website reported that most of the early evening outages were in Cumberland, Knox and Oxford counties.

Some of the affected towns included Fryeburg and Lovell, Harpswell and Rockport.
