A 7-year-old boy was killed when a fire tore through a house in Hampton, New Hampshire, early Wednesday morning.
The fire at 32 Thorwald Ave. was reported via multiple 911 calls to the Hampton Fire Department at 12:43 a.m., according to New Hampshire fire officials. The fire quickly spread to a neighboring house, prompting firefighters to call for assistance from neighboring departments.
When fire crews arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames and seven of the eight occupants had escaped, officials said. Several attempts were made to rescue the person who was unaccounted for, but crews were unable to gain access to the house because of the conditions, according to officials from the New Hampshire Department of Public Safety Division of Fire Safety.
Residents of nearby homes were evacuated. The fire spread to 34 Thorwald Ave., causing significant damage, officials said.
One woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. An autopsy is expected this week on the 7-year-old victim, whose name has not been released.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and Hampton police and fire departments are investigating the fire.
