As an 81-year-old reader of the Maine Sunday Telegram comics, what I see are comic strips about dogs, cats and so-called white people. I am one of the latter; my skin color is really pink-beige. But what about people who have darker skin than mine? They are never featured in the comics pages.

We humans come in a variety of races and skin colors, and there’s a lot that’s funny about every one of us. One of my grandchildren is African-American. At age 21, he is very funny sometimes.

Your comic pages are a lot like the schoolbooks I used in grade school where every illustration showed only white people. That realization distressed me at age 6 and still does now when I read the comics.

I believe that the Portland Press Herald should look for comics about people who are not “white.” Your comics are racist by exclusion.
