BATH — A Phippsburg man has been arrested in connection with a burglary that took place early Monday morning at a popular downtown Bath restaurant.

Bath Police Chief Michael W. Field said 27-year-old Joshua Robinson has been charged with burglary and theft.

Police said Robinson broke into Beale Street Barbecue on Water Street, a downtown establishment that is located a few feet away from the Bath police station.

Patrolman Michael Lever spotted Robinson around 1:24 a.m. standing near Smith Cleaners at Center and Water streets. Several liquor bottles, a power tool, a butcher knife and some wax paper were found on the ground next to him, police said.

Field credited Lever, who is entering his 40th year with the police department, with keeping an eye out for suspicious activity.

Robinson was able to make bail. He is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on Nov. 11.
