I wish to express my opinion on school safety. First, I think it is unfair, and bizarre, to consider arming teachers. That is a stressful responsibility for the educators.

Schools should have at least one armed safety officer. And if a school district cannot afford that, then have the district’s superintendent relieved of some of their excessive salary to provide that safety.

Another point: A recent writer, on March 27, suggests that paying more taxes for the Portland Public Schools budget will equal better education. How ridiculous! Prove that theory, please. The writer must head a school board. Many home-schooled children thrive and excel in colleges.
