BANGOR — Tyler Scanlon and Will Goff each scored 13 points Wednesday to help Boston University beat Maine 78-69 at the Cross Insurance Center.

Walter Whyte added 12 points for BU (1-3), which lost Sunday to Connecticut, 85-66. Nick Havener grabbed 10 rebounds but was just 4-of-14 shooting from the field. Goff made four of BU’s 11 3-pointers and Scanlon added three.

BU trailed 9-2 early but Goff made four straight 3-pointers and the Terriers led 41-28 at halftime in their first visit to Maine since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.

Aaron Calixte led Maine (0-5) with 22 points but committed nine turnovers. Andrew Fleming had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE 90, (2) ARIZONA 84: Freshman Braxton Beverly scored a season-high 20 points and sparked the decisive late run that helped North Carolina State (5-0) upset Arizona (3-1) at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Allerik Freeman scored 24 points to lead the Wolfpack. But it was Beverly – who missed the first two games in an NCAA eligibility dispute tied to his attending summer courses at Ohio State before coming to N.C. State – who led the way in the critical moments.

(5) VILLANOVA 66, WESTERN KENTUCKY 58: Jalen Brunson scored 18 points to help Villanova (4-0) beat Western Kentucky (2-2) at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The Wildcats found themselves in a close game until early in the second half. That’s when they ran off a 13-2 burst to push ahead by double figures, part of a hot-shooting stretch that had them picking up the pace and scoring baskets off turnovers.

(11) MIAMI 57, LA SALLE 46: Dewan Huell scored 16 points and Miami (4-0)did just enough to get by La Salle (3-3) at Reading, Pennsylvania.

B.J. Johnson scored 16 points on 6-of-20 shooting and Pookie Powell added 15 on 5 of 15 from the field for La Salle in its third straight loss.

TENNESSEE 78, (18) PURDUE 75: Grant Williams scored all 22 of his points after halftime and hit the go-ahead shot with 14.5 seconds left in overtime to lift Tennessee (3-0) past Purdue (4-1) at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

(18) OREGON STATE 97, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL 44: Kat Tudor had careers-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Oregon State (3-1) beat North Carolina Central (1-2) at Durham, North Carolina, for its first road win of the season.

(19) TEXAS A&M 66, LITTLE ROCK 49: Danni Williams scored 18 points, Chennedy Carter added 17 and Texas A&M (3-1) beat Little Rock (1-2) at College Station, Texas.

(22) KENTUCKY 86, MOREHEAD STATE 53: Maci Morris made five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, Makenzie Cann had her second straight double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Kentucky (5-0) beat Morehead State (2-3) at Lexington, Kentucky

(25) MICHIGAN 78, OAKLAND 69: Hallie Thome scored 29 points, Katelynn Flaherty added 26 and Michigan (3-1) pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Oakland (2-3) at Ann Arbor, Michigan.
