Clinton police are searching for a man wanted on a charge of aggravated domestic assault after he allegedly strangled a woman and threatened to kill her along a roadside.
The man wanted by police, Jonathan Petgrave, faces a charge of aggravated assault domestic violence, according to a Facebook post Monday by the Clinton Police Department.
The assault reportedly happened Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on the end of Bellsqueze Road, near Hinckley road. Petgrave “strangled the victim to the point that she could not breathe” and witnesses told authorities they could hear the screaming from down the road.
“The victim screamed that she could not breathe and told the attacker that he was going to kill her,” police said in the post.
Police didn’t immediately release many details about why the assault allegedly occurred, saying in the post that Petgrave pulled the woman out of a car and threw her in the road, and she jumped back into the car. Petgrave opened the door and started strangling her repeatedly, pulling her out of the car and throwing her into a ditch. Petgrave jumped into the car as an unidentified driver sped off, police said in the post.
A Clinton ambulance took the woman to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Center for Health, where she was treated for injuries.
Police asked for the public’s help in finding Petgrave, saying in the Facebook post anyone with information should call 911 “and let us know where he is,” adding, “let’s get this guy arrested.”
