A North Yarmouth man was charged with operating under the influence after his car hit a utility pole Monday afternoon, knocking out power in the area.

Paul Metevier, 63, was driving on Gray Road in North Yarmouth when his car hit a utility pole near the intersection with Haskell Road around 4:20 p.m. Monday. The crash caused a string of power outages in the area.

Metevier, who was alone in his car and not injured, was charged with operating under the influence, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Central Maine Power Co. went to the scene to repair the pole and restore power.
