Maine State Police have identified the man they say ran from a New Hampshire state trooper shortly after midnight Tuesday and ended up leaving his vehicle along the Maine Turnpike and fleeing into woods near the York toll plaza.

Michael Gatcomb, 33, of Livermore Falls, failed to stop for the New Hampshire trooper about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday near the town of Hampton. The New Hampshire trooper attempted to stop Gatcomb because his vehicle was weaving in and out of the travel lane, and the Maine license plate attached to Gatcomb’s gold 2003 Hyundai belonged to another vehicle.

Gatcomb refused to stop, and the trooper gave chase, reaching speeds of 100 mph. After Gatcomb crossed into Maine and fled into some woods police could not locate him.

Gatcomb is believed to frequent the towns of Bath and Fayette, in addition to areas in Franklin and Washington counties.
