I was pleased to read that Saco is considering a plastic bag ban and a charge for paper bags.

The Nov. 21 Portland Press Herald makes reference to municipalities that have adopted fees for single-use plastic and paper bags. I notice that there was no mention of Topsham, where two citizens’ initiatives made it onto the Nov. 8 ballot, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers.

Our proposed ordinance to put a 5-cent fee on single-use and paper bags passed, as did the ordinance to ban Styrofoam food containers. For further information, visit bringyourownbag.info.
