Mainers are turning out in high numbers to cast absentee ballots in person before Election Day.

By the end of the day on Wednesday, November 2 – six days before Election Day – Maine’s town clerks had accepted about 188,352 early voting ballots – roughly 22% of all Maine registered voters – according to early voting data from Maine’s Secretary of State.

Republicans and Democrats alike have increased their turnout of early voters this year, compared to 2012. But, as in past elections, Democrats continue to get more of their of party members to vote early. As of Nov. 3, roughly 28% of all registered Democrats had already voted, compared to 22% of registered Maine Republicans.
