A Pittston man was arrested on charges of assault, domestic violence assault and refusing to submit to arrest or detention Saturday evening after he allegedly struck a juvenile member of his family, then allegedly tried to punch and burn with a cigarette the responding police officers.

Members of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office charged and arrested David Phillip Albert, 63, around 10 p.m. Saturday after his wife reported that he hit an 11-year-old family member, said Sheriff Ryan Reardon.

After the incident was first reported to police around 8:40 p.m., they first went to the hospital where the victim was being treated for a gash on his head, Reardon said. The boy was accompanied by Albert’s wife, who had called police about the alleged assault.

Sheriff’s deputies then went to Albert’s home on Albert Circle in Pittston and attempted to arrest him, but he initially tried to pull away from them, Reardon said. They eventually brought him to Kennebec County jail and set his bail at $1,000 cash.

At one point during the arrest, Albert tried to punch one of the police officers after they had removed handcuffs from his wrists, Reardon said. When the officers brought him to the ground, he tried to use a lit cigarette to burn an officer in the leg, Reardon added.

The charges faced by Albert are all Class D crimes that carry a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
