A motorist suspected of driving while intoxicated led a Fryeburg police officer on a high-speed chase after he failed to incapacitate her with a Taser during a contentious traffic stop.

The motorist, 40-year-old Lovell resident Roberta Blood-Kemp, was pulled over Saturday night by police Officer Kevin Davis on Route 5 (Main Street) in Fryeburg, according to police. As Davis was placing Blood-Kemp under arrest for suspicion of operating under the influence, she began to fight his attempts to restrain her, police said.

Davis fired a Taser at Blood-Kemp, but “due to poor probe contact,” she was able to escape and fled in her Ford F-150 at speeds of over 80 mph, according to police. At that point, officers from the Maine State Police and Bridgton police were called to the area to assist in her capture.

Blood-Kemp tried to elude Davis on Frog Alley Road before fleeing to her residence on Main Street in Lovell, where she was taken into custody and transported to the Oxford County Jail, police said. She was charged with eight offenses including OUI, refusing to submit to arrest and escaping arrest – a felony – and is being held on $1,000 bail.

Blood-Kemp is scheduled to appear in Bridgton District Court at 9 a.m. on Nov. 15 for arraignment.
