Gorham Sand & Gravel is donating 10 fresh turkeys and 10 hams this year to families in need. Each family is limited to one turkey or ham. Recipients must be able to pick up in Buxton between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

High school students to visit Rotary Club

Christine Johnson, secretary of Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club, said the club would hear from Westbrook and Gorham high school students Nov. 18 when it meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. in the dining room at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center, 1 Vocational Drive, Westbrook.

The students attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp last summer.

Johnson said the Westbrook students would join the club for lunch and those from Gorham would likely attend the meeting via Zoom.

Free clothes at closet

The Mission of Hope Clothes Closet will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Cressey Road Christian Church, 81 Cressey Road, Gorham.

Library repair fair a success

Baxter Memorial Library reported that its recent repair fair drew a big turnout of volunteers.

Community members attending the fair contributed 495 pounds of groceries for the Gorham Food Pantry.

Parking ban in effect

Parking on any public road or public easement is now prohibited from midnight to 6 a.m. until May 1. A parking ban will also be in effect whenever the Public Works Department makes an announcement.

Public Works will begin its winter hours on Dec. 1 with the office and garage open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

50 years ago

The American Journal reported on Nov. 12, 1975, that Gorham Camp Fire Girls observed its 60th anniversary. The story reported that the late Charlotte Millett organized the group.
