“Parky” Parks III

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – Alfred Arnold Parks, III, 77, died unexpectedly of a cardiac event on Oct. 30, 2025, at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1948, in Bath, to Alfred Arnold Parks Jr., and Elizabeth Fuller Parks. He grew up in Bath, graduating from Morse High School in 1966. He was on the varsity basketball team and the golf team. Al graduated from Rollins College with an MBA degree.

On July 5, 1980, Al married Joan Cumbey. They lived in Maine, New Hampshire and Virginia, before retiring in 2017 and moving to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. His career was in the financial services industry as a mortgage lender. Al looked forward to spending time with his family. He loved King’s Point on the New Meadows River in West Bath. He was a golf enthusiast, and enjoyed watching sports, especially UVA and the Boston Red Sox. Al had a passion for cooking and exploring family genealogy.

Al was predeceased in death by his parents and his son, George Alfred “Alfie” Grant.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, and children, Wyatt Cumbey, and Jennifer Givens; his son, Geoff Grant and daughter Katie Perkins from a previous marriage. Grandchildren, Madison Givens; Sydney and Keegan Grant; Bella and Elle Grant. He is also survived by his sister Patricia P. Coombs and her husband Richard A. Coombs and their daughters, Pamela Underwood and Kathi Coombs, plus their children and grandchildren. His final resting place will be in Bath. A private gathering will be held in the spring.

Al will be remembered for his razor-sharp wit, his endless appetite for knowledge and his unwavering love of family.
