Incumbent Brian McCambridge and Gary Rairdon, a former city councilor, won Westbrook City Council races Tuesday.

McCambridge, 52, handily defeated Dustin Sleight, 695-369, to retain his seat in Ward 1. McCambridge could not be immediately reached for comment.

In an at-large race, Rairdon, 61, edged challenger Elizabeth Eisele McLellan by seven votes 2,742-2,735. “Very tight race results. Thank you to all that came out to support me in this election season,” Rairdon posted Wednesday on his candidate Facebook page.

McLellan, 48, said early Wednesday that she is waiting to hear from City Clerk Ellis Ledoux “on the recount parameters. Yeah, what a race. So close. The support from people has been amazing.”

McCambridge is an IT support manager. In a pre-election statement, he said the city’s top issue is affordability.

Rairdon is an assistant store manager at Hannaford. “Westbrook continues to grow at a very fast pace, but the taxes continue to increase at an unsustainable rate,” Rairdon said in a pre-election statement. “I plan to work with the City Council and the administration to come together to find other sources of revenue other than the current taxpayer.”

Incumbent Mayor David Morse was unopposed, garnering 4,514 votes, with 1,103 ballots left blank. In uncontested City Council races, incumbents Victor Chau in Ward 2 and Jennifer Munro, Ward 5, were both reelected.
