Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel voted to approve the budget proposal of $61.7 million for the area’s school district, RSU 21, on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

In Kennebunk, the vote was 2,977 in favor with 2,088 against, with Arundel voting 855 in favor and 646 against. In Kennebunkport, 1,190 residents voted in favor, and 574 voted against.

The budget was revised from its previous amount of $62.6 million, and was rejected twice earlier this year. The new budget proposal cut one central office position and one custodial position in order to lower costs, maintaining all proposed student-facing positions.

“We’re always going to come back to kids and students,” Superintendent Martin Grimm said when the school board’s new budget was proposed.

The recent proposal was a 3.91% increase over last year’s budget, trimmed down from an original 5.45% proposed increase.
