Five players scored touchdowns, and third-seeded Falmouth used a swarming defense and a steady ground game to easily defeat sixth-seeded Gorham, 33-0, in a Class B South football quarterfinal Friday in Falmouth.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Navigators broke through with 4:56 left in the second after Tres Walker threw a long pass to Abram Wintersteen. Walker followed with a 1-yard keeper up the middle, and Peter Kearns kicked the extra point as Falmouth (6-3) went into halftime with a 7-0 lead.
In the third quarter, TJ Saulter’s 23-yard run set up a 1-yard touchdown by Brendon Welch. Saulter added a 12-yard touchdown run, and Kearns kicked his third extra point for a 21-0 lead.
Luke Roy caught a 2-yard scoring pass from Walker early in the fourth. On Gorham’s next possession, quarterback Garrett Poulin connected with Atticus Whitten to get the Rams (2-7) into Falmouth territory, but Saulter striped the ball from Whitten and Roy recovered the fumble.
Wesley Howard capped the scoring with a 31-yard run.
Falmouth’s victory sets up a semifinal against second-seeded Kennebunk, which lost to the Navigators in last year’s state final.
FOXCROFT ACADEMY 14, YORK 0: Evan Seavey threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Lucas Sands in the second quarter, then added a 1-yard scoring run in the third as the seventh-seeded Ponies (6-3) beat the 10th-seeded Wildcats (1-8) in a Class C preliminary-round game in Dover-Foxcroft.
Foxcroft took the lead late in the first half when Sands outleaped two defenders to snare a pass from Seavey.
The Ponies then put together a long drive on their first possession of the second half, and Seavey took it in on a quarterback sneak.
Foxcroft next faces No. 2 Leavitt in the quarterfinals.
WINDHAM 6, DEERING 0: Jordan Pastore scored on a 4-yard run in overtime to give the Eagles (3-6) a win over the Rams (4-5) in a Class A North regular-season finale in Windham.
Deering threatened to break the scoreless deadlock in the final minute of regulation, but time ran out with the Rams inside the Windham 10.
Windham free safety Mason Arbour then ended Deering’s overtime possession with an interception, and the Eagles needed just two plays to score on their own possession.
BONNY EAGLE 44, SCARBOROUGH 6: Colby McCormack scored three touchdowns, while Colin Moran threw for two TDs and ran for one, leading the Scots (8-1) past the Red Storm (3-6) in Scarborough.
Bonny Eagle is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class A South playoffs and will face No. 3 Noble in the semifinals.
McCormack and Moran hooked up for a 29-yard touchdown pass to give Bonny Eagle the lead.
Scarborough responded with a 15-yard TD run by Kingston Griffiths, but the Scots pulled away with four touchdowns in the second quarter. McCormack scored on a 3-yard run and Lucas Klehn had a 2-yard TD run before Mcran threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Racicot. Moran’s 7-yard scoring run made it 37-6 at halftime.
McCormack added a 56-yard TD run on the first play of the third quarter.
