The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy issued a mandatory recall for a brand of cannabis vape cartridges on Monday.

The Yani adult-use cartridges, produced by NorCo Outdoor Cannabis, tested for unsafe levels of the pesticide chlorfenapyr, the office said.

Inhaling cannabis containing unsafe levels of the pesticide can lead to fever, sweating, nausea, vomiting and an “altered mental status,” the office said.

The investigation into the cartirdges stemmed from a consumer complaint about an adverse health reaction to the product, the office said.

The recall applies to Yani 0.5-gram and 1-gram live resin vape cartridges under the strain name Watermelon Chimera sold between July 10 and Oct. 16. at over 20 recreational cannabis stores in Maine.

The batch number impacted, which can be found on the back of the packaging, is 1A40D0300006145000011115.

The stores impacted are: Belvidere Farm in Rockland; Cannabis Cured in Bangor, Bethel, Carrabassett Valley, Damariscotta, Eliot, Fairfield, Portland, Stratton and Thomaston; Cannabis Haven in Auburn, Augusta, Lewiston and Waterville; Garden Lites 420 in Peru; GreenLife Guilford in Guilford; GreenLife Milo in Milo; Hive, LLC in Chelsea; OMG Cannabis Co. in Portland; Royal Leaf Apothecary in Presque Isle; and The Joint.me in Portland.

Consumers are advised to either return the product to the retailer they purchased it from or dispose of it.
