Richard E. Reed

BATH – Richard E. Reed, 78, of Bath, Maine, passed away peacefully in his home on Sept. 12, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted and loving wife and his two eldest sons.

Rich was born on Nov. 25, 1946, in Grove City, Pa., son of the late Donald and Roberta (Lehn) Reed. He graduated from Pitman High School, Pitman, NJ, in 1964. Following high school, Rich proudly served in the United States Coast Guard and then went on to trade school where he pursued a career in welding and pipe fitting.

He spent most of his life living in Pitman, NJ, and working as a welder/pipe fitter for various companies in the South Jersey area, until re-marrying and moving to Bath, where he spent the past 24 years of his life. Rich worked for and retired from Bath Iron Works (Bath).

In his retirement years, Rich enjoyed various hobbies including fishing, boating and bowling. Rich also enjoyed fitness and body building. He was always known to have a kind heart and a sense of humor. He was honest and hardworking, and was a loving husband and father to his wife and children.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sherry McCarthy; three sons, Donald S. Watkins (Mitzi) of Hubert, NC, Craig T. Reed (Virginia) of Towson, Md., and Jeffrey R. Reed (Marie) of Lancaster, Pa.; five grandchildren, Katie, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Richard (Rick), and Charles (Charlie); one great grandson, Hampton; his sister, Marianne Reed (Bruce) of Columbia, Md.; and his former wife, Meredith Reed of Towson, Md..

A Time of Remembrance and memorial service will take place in Bath, April 2026.
