Frosty’s Donuts is scheduled to open in Bath on Friday. The donut shop had previously had a location in Bath, but it was one of three stores that owners Nels and Shelby Omdal closed during the pandemic.

The new shop in Bath, at 56 Centre Street, is just 400 square feet and is largely for take-out orders.

Donut flavors will include pumpkin, blueberry, caramel sea salt, “our famous twists” and several dozen more, Shelby Omdal said. Coffee and coffee drinks, smoothies and bagels are also on the menu.

“This is kind of like our COVID comeback, finally, years later,” she said, adding that the couple had no plans to re-open its three other previous locations — in Freeport, Augusta and Gardiner — or relaunch its wholesale business. “We’re too old now,” she said, laughing, adding, “Our get-up-and-go has dwindled a bit.”

“When COVID hit, everybody owed us a lot of money, quite frankly, and no one was able to pay it,” she said. “So that was a very big hit. But everything was a blessing in disguise because once we got to slow down a bit, we realized, ‘Wow. We never want to go back to that place.”

That said, they couldn’t turn down the chance to re-open in Bath. “The opportunity presented itself this little building that’s adorable,” Shelby Omdal said. “The timing was right. Everything aligned, so here we are. “

The new Bath location will be open Thursdays through Sundays, from either 6 or 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., the opening hour depending on demand and shift times at Bath Ironworks.

Nels Omdal said that cutting back their production and hours, and selling their manufacturing facility in Brunswick, has allowed them to “focus 100% on the quality of our donuts,” without the distractions of running a much larger business.
