A New Hampshire man accused of stabbing another man in Lebanon on Monday was arrested and charged with attempted murder, police said.

While responding to a reported disturbance on West Lebanon Road in Lebanon around 2 p.m., deputies were notified that a 52-year-old man had been stabbed, York County Sheriff William King Jr. said in a statement Monday night.

A deputy intercepted the Lebanon man after he left his residence to seek aid and discovered he had sustained seven “severe stab wounds” to his chest, face, back and head, King said.

The man was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Jeremy Potvin, 35, of New Hampshire, has been charged with criminal attempted murder in the attack, King Jr. said.

A preliminary investigation determined Potvin showed up “apparently uninvited” to the man’s residence “when some sort of disagreement escalated into a physical altercation,” King said.

The victim knows Potvin, King said.

Potvin was located by Berwick Police Department and held for the sheriff’s office, King said.

Potvin was booked at York County Jail, and bail was set at $150,000, King said.
