The York Fire Department rescued someone from the water at the mouth of York Harbor after their boat flipped on Saturday.
At 12:01 p.m., the fire department was dispatched to a report of an overturned boat at the mouth of the harbor and a person in the water, according to a social media post from the department. A rescue boat was quickly in the water and located the boat. Maine Marine Patrol assisted the York Fire Department in this rescue.
The crew rescued the person holding to the side of the overturned vessel. They were then brought back to shore and evaluated by EMS.
The fire department’s social media post noted that in addition to weekly firefighting and rescue skills, the York Fire Department trains for water rescues biweekly during the summer.
“This successful rescue highlights the importance of training, coordination, and rapid response,” said the post.
