Lila Kerman
PORTLAND – Lila “Lulu” Kerman passed away on Oct. 3, 2025. She died from medical complications of long-term heavy alcohol use.
She was born on March 13, 1990, the beloved daughter of Nancy Decker of Watertown, Mass. and Ben Kerman of Hingham, Mass.
Lulu is survived by her brothers Benyam and Maxwell Kerman, and his wife Jillian; stepparents John Oliver and Paula McCree; nephews Maxwell Jr. and Quinn Kerman; her aunt, Dody Decker; and cousin, Maia Francini and her husband Juanjo Obon; and her dear friend, Tony Scala. She is also survived by her birth family, who never stopped loving her. She remained close to and attached to her family and friends throughout her life.
Our Lulu grew up in Watertown, Mass. where she graduated from Watertown High School. After attending Lyndon State College, her adventurous spirit led her to live in Vinalhaven for a number of years. For nearly a decade she made her home in Portland, where she worked in hospitality at the Westin Hotel. In her last years, she was fortunate to find her true calling – caring for the elderly in senior residences. Lulu attended to the residents with love and care as if they were her dear family and friends. In turn, they loved her back, affectionately calling her their “little angel.” She seemed to get as much as she gave.
Lulu was open-hearted, loved to laugh, and make fun. She could be delightfully silly — truly a “lulu.” She was always eager to make new friends, hear their stories and share in their company. Her peace lay in the simple moments of walking through Maine woods and trails and floating on Indian Pond in St. Albans. Lulu found relaxation in gardening, craft projects, and snuggling with Tony’s dog, Gunner. We find comfort in these cherished memories of Lulu and the love she shared with us.
Burial will be private in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland. To view Lila’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.ConroyTullyWalker.com
In remembrance of Lila’s life, charitable donations in her name may be made to Portland Wheelers, Portlandwheelers.org,
a volunteer-led organization that helps individuals who are unable to ride a bike, enjoy bike rides, courtesy of kind pedaling volunteers, of which her friend, Tony, is one.
