Helen Hebert
STANDISH – Helen Hebert passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, at Ledgewood Nursing Home in Windham.
She was born on June 8, 1929, to Melvin and Marie Louise Floyd. She grew up in Sanford, until her parents both died; then both she and her two younger sisters were placed in the foster care system, moving from one family to another, until they found their loving home with Clyde and Dorothy Page in Hiram.
Helen remained with the Pages until she entered high school, moving to Lowell, Mass., to live with her sister, Ella. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1947. She met Harold Hebert shortly after and they married on July 1, 1948. They made their home in Hollis, where they raised their family. Helen worked in the payroll office at Sebago Moc Shoe for 42 years before retiring as office manager in 1992.
Helen enjoyed going on bus trips with Harold. They traveled many places, Branson, Mo., Nashville, Tenn., South Carolina, Florida, New York, Vermont, and Canada. They also enjoyed camping trips with the Shriners.
Helen was a member of the Rebekah’s, Daughters of the Nile, and Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron nine times. She was on the Advisory Board for the Rainbow Girls and the treasurer of the Standish Senior Citizens.
Helen loved cooking suppers for the Buxton Masonic Lodge where she shared the chore for years with Betty Townsend, until she passed away, and then with Cindy Plummer, whom she loved dearly. Helen delighted in seeing the men enjoying their meal.
She was a member of the West Buxton Baptist Church for years until she moved to Standish where she joined the Congregational Church there.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; an infant son, Stanley Thomas; her husband, Harold; four sisters, Ella Woods, Lola Hilton, Sylvia Jay, and Marie Campbell, and four brothers, Edward, Harry, Marshall, and Mervin.
She leaves behind two sons, Marshall from Florida and John and his wife Jane from Hollis, a daughter, Marie Estes and her husband Stephen from Standish; five grandchildren, Adam Estes, Bryan Hebert, Eric Estes, Ben Hebert, and Kelsey Hebert; five great-grandchildren, Stephen D. Estes, Maggie Hebert, Chloe Estes, Gianna Estes, and Waverly Hebert.
Helen loved her family and being around them. She especially enjoyed when they would gather together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, a birthday, or a BBQ and reminisce about the past while making new memories.
