Dorothy “Dot” Ann Golding Litchfield
HARPSWELL – Dorothy “Dot” Ann Golding Litchfield, 90, passed peacefully into the arms of her beloved Savior on Oct. 14, 2025.
Born in Yarmouth, to Lillian Smith and William Golding on Dec. 18, 1934, Dorothy was the ninth of 11 children. As a child, she attended several one-room schoolhouses in Pownal before studying at Freeport High School. On Jan. 22, 1955, she married Arthur E. Litchfield. Residents of Durham for 44 years, they moved to Harpswell in 2004.
After beginning her career working in nearby shoe shops, she became a dedicated employee of L.L. Bean, working in the alterations department until her retirement in 1996.
Known for her sparkling eyes and ready smile, anyone blessed to meet her quickly became acquainted with her incredible generosity and her ability to make anyone feel like part of her extended family.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo All Saints Parish in Brunswick, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, taught Sunday school, and was active in many other church activities. She will especially be remembered for her integral role in orchestrating Lenten church suppers and the annual St. Charles Christmas Fair.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert Litchfield, and his wife, Marcia Weed; granddaughter, Danae Rice, and her husband, Loren Rice; two great-grandsons, Liam and Caleb Rice; foster son, Stephen Harris; sister, Wilma “Billie” Ryder; along with a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur E. Litchfield; as well as her siblings Malcolm Golding, Eugene Golding, John Golding, Arlene Smith, James Golding, Rosetta Vermette, Thomas Golding, Elizabeth Dobson, and Evelyn Brine.
Friends and family are invited to visit 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral mass followed by a light luncheon reception will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday Oct. 21 at St. Charles Borromeo All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick.
