Howard Alan Corwin

PORTLAND – Surrounded by those he loved, Dr. Howard Corwin of Falmouth and Bridgton, and Naples, Florida, passed away on Oct. 5, 2025, in Portland, four days before his 93rd birthday.

He is survived by his life partner, Lois Lowry; his son, Erik, daughter-in-law, Manal Corwin, and their children, Amanda, Adam, Alexander, and Aidan; his son, Bruce Corwin, and his children, Dillon and Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. His beloved wife, Jeannette Hatfield Corwin; and his son, Thomas George Corwin, predeceased him in 2012 and 1988, respectively.

Dr. Corwin grew up in New Jersey and was valedictorian of his class at Millburn High School. He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1954, where he was an editor of the Harvard Crimson, and cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1958.

He served his country on active duty as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1963-1965. Dr. Corwin was in private practice as a psychiatrist for more than thirty years. He also served on the Harvard Medical School faculty, as an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine, and as a Training and Supervisory Analyst at the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute.

A passionate environmentalist, Dr. Corwin was a founder of the Greater Lovell Land Trust, which was formed to protect the Kezar Lake watershed in Lovell, Maine, and he led the organization for many years. He continued to work tirelessly for environmental causes until the end of his life.

Dr. Corwin loved golf, skiing, swimming (especially in his beloved Kezar Lake), Harvard sports, classical music, discussing current events, and spending time with family and friends.
