Barbara Hart Hoagland Cohen
PORTLAND – Barbara Hart Hoagland Cohen, 98, of Bridgton, passed away peacefully on Sept. 24, 2025.
Born on August 9, 1927, Barbara married Peter Hoagland in 1948. Together they raised three children—Peter B., Holland, and Jan—and were expecting Benjamin when Peter passed away in 1955.
In 1958, she married Stanley M. Cohen, and they later welcomed two daughters, Peri and Lydia. Barbara was known for her intelligence, compassion, and dedication to family and community. She was an activist for equality, a graduate of Goddard College, and volunteered in education and social justice causes throughout her life.
She was predeceased by Peter, Stanley, Peter B., and Lydia. She is survived by Holland, Jan, Ben (Carol), and Peri (Michael); seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 9, at 1 p.m., at the Bridgton Public Library, 1 Church Street, Bridgton, Maine 04009.
