Robert Ernest “Andy” Becker, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025 in
Scarborough, Maine. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-
great-grandfather, he will be remembered for his deep love of family, his service to country, his
love for a good prank, his pugs, Oldies music, his love for candy and the many other joys that
filled his life.

Born on October 25, 1928 in Winchendon Massachusetts, Andy served proudly in the
United Sates Navy for 21 years in the field of cryptology. His career took him and his family
around the world, with postings in Cuba, Germany, Maryland, Washington D.C. and Hawaii,
before retiring in Boston, Massachusetts. Following his military service, he continued his
commitment to education and community through his work at Bowdoin College in
Brunswick, Maine.
For 73 Years, Andy was a dedicated member of the Masons and Shriners, giving his time
and heart to their work. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and the Fleet
Reserve Association, remaining connected to the bonds of service that meant so much to
him.
Beyond his accomplishments, Andy was known for the things that made him the happiest;
the loyal company of his many beloved pugs, the always-full candy jar beside his chair (that
his grandkids loved), his green thumb; especially his beautiful geraniums he tended to year
after year, his silly humor, ice cream with jimmies, magical summers spent at Crescent Lake and
Peabody Pond, and the devoted love he had for his family.

He is survived by his daughters Roanne and (Joe) Fortin of Bristol, Janet and (Jason) Burns of
Tampa, Fla. and Sebago, and Suellyn and (Michael) Shannon of Morganton, Ga.; Also survived
by his grandchildren Jeffrey and (Rachel) Fortin of Saunderstown R.I., Russell and (Ellen) Fortin
of Linden, Mich., Gregory and (Lauren) Fortin of Canton, Conn., Andrea and (Adam) Virgili of
Oldsmar, Fla., Alex and (Rachael Cina) Burns of Boston, Kate and (Trebor) Marple of Canton, Ga.
He is survived by his great-grandchildren William and Christopher Fortin, Jordan and Addie
Fortin, Haley Fortin, Gavin, Graham and Gwen Virgili, Nora and Owen Cina-Burns, Emma and
Evan Seago, Tate Marple, Liam Maxwell and Dawson Moore, and great-great grandchildren,
Zackary and Eliot Seago, He is predeceased by

granddaughters Megan and Keriann Shannon. He is also predeceased by the love of his life,
wife Marion who passed away in 2021.
After 68 years of marriage, Andy and his beloved wife, Marion, will be laid to rest together, just as
they lived their lives—side by side.
A private service to honor Andy’s and Marion’s lives will be held at Linwood Cemetery in
Haverhill, Mass on June 6, 2026. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Maine
Veterans’ Home—Scarborough, for their loving care and dedication these past several years
and the amazing care he received from Compassus Hospice in Scarborough. In lieu of flowers,
