Liza Flower scored two goals, Emily Groves added a goal and three assists, and Freeport quickly bounced back from its first loss of the season by earning a 5-0 win over Cape Elizabeth in a Western Maine Conference field hockey game Wednesday in Freeport.
Callie Bourgoin and Lydia Porter also scored for Freeport (9-1), which lost in overtime to Yarmouth on Monday. The Falcons are ranked sixth in this week’s Varsity Maine field hockey poll.
Lulu Stocklein made 22 saves for the Capers (6-4).
YORK 4, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2: Bella Santini scored two goals, Nya Avery added a goal and an assist, and the Wildcats (3-7-1) defeated the Raiders (2-8) in Fryeburg.
Chloe Ridley also scored and Adi Regis made five saves for York.
Brooke Blood and Addie Valente scored and Brennan Slosberg stopped four shots for Fryeburg.
YARMOUTH 8, POLAND 0: Celia Smith scored twice, Maya Nasveschuk had a goal and two assists, and the Clippers (11-0) routed the Knights (3-6) in Yarmouth.
Sally McGrath contributed a goal and an assist. Erica O’Connor, Madison Wiles, Vivienne Corriveau and Stella Murdoch also scored.
GIRLS SOCCER
SOUTH PORTLAND 5, CHEVERUS 4: Norah Juers and Maci Rauscher both scored twice, and the Red Riots (2-5-2) survived a furious comeback by the Stags (4-5-1) in South Portland.
South Portland led 3-1 at halftime on the strength and two goals by Juers and one by Sasha Neff, and Rauscher stretched the margin to 5-1 in the second half.
Cheverus answered with three goals in the final 10 minutes before the rally fell short.
Nina Brown led Cheverus with two goals. Maddie Nalls and Taylor Hoglund also scored.
SCARBOROUGH 2, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Kate Goodwin and Maya Casey scored six minutes apart midway through the second half, lifting the Red Storm (8-1) over the Golden Trojans (5-4) in Scarborough.
Jill Morris assisted on both goals.
DEERING 7, MASSABESIC 1: Matilda Freeman poured in six goals, leading the Rams (4-4-1) past the Mustangs (1-7-1) in Portland.
Vanessa Orellana contributed a goal and an assist.
Megan Walls scored for Massabesic.
BONNY EAGLE 6, PORTLAND 0: Elizabeth Hamilton tallied three goals, Taytum Lauziere added a pair, and the Scots (4-5-1) handled the Bulldogs (1-7-1) in Standish.
Madison Weeks also scored and Abigayle Cabading had an assist.
SANFORD 2, GORHAM 1: Annalise Stimmell got the winning goal with two minutes left as the Spartans (6-3) edged the Rams (6-4) in Sanford.
Ava Hudson assisted on the winning goal. Kailyn Stuart scored with an assist from Bella McCall earlier in the second half, and Sophie Olivo made eight saves for the win.
Gorham’s Kylie Matorano scored in the first half.
