Paul Lawrence Rathe
PORTLAND – Paul Lawrence Rathe passed away unexpectedly in his home in Portland on Friday Aug. 29, 2025 at the age of 64. He died due to cardiac and respiratory health issues.
He was born Oct. 21, 1961 in Colchester, Vt. Paul grew up in Colchester, Vt., graduating from Colchester High School in 1979. Paul moved to Miami, Fla. at the age of 18.
He worked in the hospitality industry including Marriott for many years and enjoyed it immensely. He at one time owned and managed his own 10-unit apartment building in Miami, Fla. He also lived in North Carolina for a short while. Paul was a people person. He made friends easily. He had a love for beaches and sunshine. He walked and enjoyed the beach everyday he lived in Miami.
After visiting Portland in 2015, he chose to live in Portland. His love of the ocean continued and he visited many Maine Beaches with Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth being his favorite.
He was predeceased by his parents Louis Phillip Rathe and Suzanne (Tougas) Rathe; his sisters Louise Rathe and Joanne Rathe Bemis; and many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his brother, Armand Rathe and his wife Laurie Marshall Rathe; and his aunt, Jacqueline Rathe Plourde. He is survived by many cousins; nieces and nephews; and close friends that were like family to Paul.
He will be missed dearly.
