One person was killed and two were injured in a crash Saturday night near the Merrymeeting Bridge in Topsham.
The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. Saturday when a car crossed the centerline on Route 196 and hit another vehicle head-on, police said.
Responding officers initiated life-saving efforts on a passenger, 23-year-old Marcus Steinman, of Topsham, but he was later pronounced dead at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, according to police.
The drivers of both vehicles — a 34-year-old man from Bowdoin and a 25-year-old woman from Hermon — were seriously injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where they were still being treated Monday, police said.
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Topsham police with the investigation. Police are asking any witnesses to call Topsham police Officer Lucas Shirland at 207-725-4337.
