Helen R. Hogan-Scott

FORT WORTH, Texas – Helen R. Hogan-Scott, 97, peacefully slipped into Glory the evening of Sept. 23, 2025, in the presence of several loved ones and into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

Helen was born on Nov. 12, 1927 to Rose and Cecil Black in Auburn Maine. She graduated from Edward Little High in 1945. From there she moved to Boston, Mass. where she was employed as secretary in a travel agency as well as trained and worked as a volunteer nurses aid for American National Red Cross.

While in Boston, Mass., she met and married her future husband, Weymouth “Ed” Hogan. They moved to Southern Maine and there birthed and raised their three children. During these years she committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith, gratitude, love for the Lord and study of the Word shone brightly! People often comment how she always had a smile on her face.

Ever the prolific gardener, Helen spent many happy hours creating beautiful gardens around their homes. Other activities included visiting Maine’s lakes and coastal beaches with her children, sewing, teaching Sunday school, snow skiing, golf, and her greatest love – cooking! She was always on the lookout for a new recipe and the results were always delicious!

Shortly after their 60th anniversary Ed passed away, and a year later Helen married Sanford W. Scott. She was warmly welcomed into his family and made many new friends both in Maine, Vermont and Florida, before “Scotty” passed away in 2020.

Helen spent her remaining years in the loving care of her daughter and son-in-law in Texas. While she never quite got used to the Texas heat, she enjoyed attending concerts, cheering on her favorite golfers and football teams (some even from Texas!), building puzzles, and keeping up on current events.

Her favorite verse: “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26

Helen is survived by her sister and her husband, Gloria and Tom Woodbury; by her two sons and their wives, Jeff and Mary Jane Hogan, Dan and Nancy Hogan, by her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Dave Quinn; by her eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

A private family graveside ceremony will be held later in Auburn.
