John T. Barrows

BANGOR/ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – John T. Barrows, 92, of Zephyrhills, Fla., died Sept. 26, 2025.

John was born in Bangor, Sept. 28, 1932, the son of Charles K. and Thelma (Ryan) Barrows. He attended Bangor schools and graduated from Husson College, class of 1956.

John was hired by Bancroft & Martin, Inc. in June of 1954 and retired from that firm in 1999. He held various accounting positions with Bancroft & Martin and was treasurer from 1989 until his retirement.

Prior to moving to Portland in 1963, he was active in several dance orchestras in the Bangor area and continued to play the drums for his own enjoyment most of his life. He also enjoyed playing golf, summers at Molasses Pond in Eastbrook, and time spent in Zephyrhills, Fla. His love of making people smile remained strong through his final days, even while facing the challenges of dementia.

John was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Donna Haslam Barrows, in 2002; sister, Teresa Davis, of Oakland, in 2006; and daughter-in-law, Nancy R. Barrows, of Holden, in 2024.

Surviving are his partner for several years, Lorraine B. Label, of Biddeford; sister, Nancy Spencer and her husband, William of Bangor; two daughters, Deborah D. Barrows, of Brunswick, and Diann B. Jordan and her husband, Kenneth of Waltham, one son, Gregory J. Barrows of Holden; two granddaughters, two grandsons; two great-granddaughters, one great-grandson; five nieces and five nephews.

There will be a memorial service at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, followed by a reception with refreshments. Please come and share a time of memories with the family. John will be privately interred at Hillside Cemetery, in Waltham.
