Raymond Town Manager Joseph Crocker recently sent a letter of resignation to the Select Board. Crocker, who had been serving in the position since May 20, did not give a reason for his resignation in the email to the board.
In his letter, Crocker said that serving as town manager had been a rewarding experience both professionally and personally, which made his decision to resign all the more difficult. He said that his final date would be Friday, Oct. 24, or a date determined by the Select Board.
Following the resignation, a copy of the email was posted on the town’s Facebook page on Monday, along with a letter from Select Board Chair Denis Morse in which he decried the “rumor mill” on social media surrounding the resignation, saying that it was filled with “misinformation, allegation and even obscenity” that was causing stress to town employees.
Morse said he had asked Crocker to stay on with the town in a different capacity during the transition, but it’s not yet clear whether that will happen.
A special Select Board meeting to discuss the matter will take place on Monday, Oct. 6.
