Karen L. Zamjohn
SACO – Karen L. Zamjohn, 64, of Saco, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Karen was born on Jan. 22, 1961, in Gardiner, to Alice and Stanley Brown. She graduated from Cony High School in Augusta and the University of Maine, Orono.
Karen was active in sports from a young age and was an avid basketball and softball player. She remained a sports fan throughout her life, both coaching her children and cheering from the sidelines in support. Karen began her career in Washington, D.C. as a contracts analyst, and continued that work at Grumman Aerospace. She went on to work as a purchasing analyst at Bass Shoe Co. and eventually became a project manager at IDEXX.
Karen led an active lifestyle – boating, biking, and hiking with her dogs Evie and Prism. As a true Maine native, she shared her parents’ love for the Maine coast and seafood. She ran a tight ship at home, encouraging her children to always strive for their best and instilling a strong work ethic and drive. Karen had an outgoing personality and loved engaging and spending time with her family and friends – from the neighborhood and those she met through sports.
Karen had an unwavering dedication to those she loved, always supporting her family through both good times and bad. Known for her quiet strength, sharp wit, and unshakeable energy, she touched the lives of many — as a wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice and Stanley Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, of Old Orchard Beach; daughter, Samantha Koehler of Saco, son, Matthew Koehler and daughter-in-law Patricia Robinson of Boston, Mass., daughter, Alyssa Zamjohn of Arlington, Va.; granddaughter, Alexa Knox of Saco; brother, Brad Brown and sister-in-law, Kim of Farmingdale; as well as many nieces and cousins who will carry her legacy forward with love and gratitude.
Karen L. Zamjohn will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Karen’s life, in accordance with her wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Dennett Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco are entrusted with her arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Southern Maine Agency on Aging at the Sam L. Cohen Center or Alzheimer’s Association to support awareness, research toward a cure, and assistance for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s.
