Michael J. Russell

SOUTH PORTLAND – Michael J. Russell, 80, of South Portland, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.

He was born in Fort Fairfield, on July 21, 1945, a son of Clarence M. Russell and Evelyn O. (Gaunce) Russell. He was a graduate of Scarborough High School’s class of 1964.

Michael was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War from 1968-1971.

When Michael was young, he and his father; a well know harness racer, would travel the circuit from Canada to Florida racing horses.

He was a Color Guard and member of The American Legion, Post 96 in Saco and previously worked for Snow’s Canning Company of Scarborough.

Michael was predeceased by his brother, Blair K. Russell; sisters: Heidi A. Libby and Corrine J. Russell. He is survived by his sister, Judith Doody and husband George of Saco; two daughters, Vanessa of Nampa, Id. and Emily of Scarborough; a son, Daniel of Norway; grandchildren, Maxwell, River and Gideon along with many loving nieces and nephews; his former wife Joleen of Norway and friend Karen Pierce of Camden. A private family service at Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Springvale will be held to honor his life.
