MaineHealth Lifestyle Medicine Brunswick will host a community open house from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at 329 Main St. to celebrate its new name and expanded focus. Formerly known as the Mid Coast Center for Community Health and Wellness, the department now offers a broader range of programs rooted in lifestyle medicine.
The open house will feature live music, refreshments and interactive class demonstrations highlighting the six pillars of lifestyle medicine: whole food, plant predominant eating; regular
physical activity; stress management; restorative sleep; avoidance of risky substances; and
positive social connection.
Participants can meet the lifestyle medicine team, explore the many programs and services, and tour the space, including the new social connection hub and food pantry.
Lifestyle medicine uses therapeutic lifestyle changes to prevent, treat and even reverse chronic disease, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity.
“We have been providing excellent health and wellness programs and education for many years,” MaineHealth Lifestyle Medicine Brunswick Director Cate Parker, MS, RN, said in a prepared release. “We are excited to enhance our offerings by focusing on evidence-based, lifestyle-medicine interventions. This approach allows us to partner with people to focus on positive lifestyle changes that both treat and prevent chronic health conditions.”
The public is welcome, and RSVP is requested. For more information or to register, call 373-
