SEBASCO ESTATES – Henry Auguste Sturm III of Sebasco Estates, and Venice, Florida, died on Sept. 23, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born in Bath, Maine on July 9, 1941, the son of Henry A. Sturm Jr and Harriet Williams Sturm. Salty – as he was known to his family and friends – grew up in Hartsdale and Katonah, New York and Lincoln, Massachusetts. Summers were spent at his grandmother’s cottage at Sebasco in Phippsburg, Maine. Through his grandmother and mother, Salty came to cherish the Maine coast with deep affection and lasting contentment. He was never happier than when he was at the Sebasco cottage or out on Casco Bay in his beloved Hampton boat, Baybird or the sailboat Ballerina. Salty graduated from Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, continued his education at Illinois Wesleyan University and graduated from the University of Maine, Orono in 1966. During the Vietnam War, Salty served for four years in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Panama and Japan. After his military service, Salty settled in Durham, Maine with his wife and children. The owner of a small business, Salty worked with equal dedication and enthusiasm on his own farm where he raised animals and grew vegetables to sustain his family. Salty was an avid sailor, fly fisherman, and downhill skier; he took many memorable and meaningful trips with his family to the west coast, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. Salty is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Linda Griffin Sturm, son Andy (Anne) of Brunswick, daughter Abbie Leary (Shane) of Bailey Island, Maine, granddaughter Helen Cady Sturm of Boston, Massachusetts, sister Mary Albright (Tom) of York, brother-in-law Charlie Emerson of Brunswick, and many much-loved nieces and nephews. Salty was predeceased by his parents, his aunt Elinor Clark Shafer, and his sister, Ann Emerson. Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick is directing arrangements; the family would like to thank the staff at Brackett for the kindness extended to them during this time. With profound gratitude, the family recognizes the compassionate, gracious care provided by the staff at Mid Coast Hospital. A memorial service is planned for next summer in Phippsburg, Maine.
