Linda Ruth Archibald
SOUTH PORTLAND – Linda Ruth Archibald, 79, of South Portland, passed away on Sept. 14, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Linda was born in Portland to Edna and William Shattuck. After graduating from South Portland High, she attended nursing school at Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an R.N. with her favorite job being a special care nurse at Maine Medical Center.
She loved hiking and being outdoors, including time spent at her cottage on Long Island, Maine and gardening in her yard. She was an avid baker, making friends and neighbors Christmas bread or needhams every year. She also loved making crafts, sweaters, quilts and other projects. Linda loved spending time at the casino, which she referred to as church.
Linda is survived by her husband Arthur “John” Archibald; daughter Kim Woodhouse and her husband Tim, son Ian Archibald, son Mike Archibald and his wife Amanda; her sister Paula and brother-in-law Bob Smithson. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Dan and Molly Woodhouse, Gabbie, Ian, Ben, Ava and Poppy Archibald.
Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 4 at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland at 1 p.m., followed by a ceremony at 2 p.m. and a reception at 2:45 p.m.
