Gladys M. Davis
FREEPORT – Gladys M. Davis, 93, passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Franklin, Maine, daughter of Willis Scammon and Sylvia (Merchant) Scammon.
Gladys raised seven children and upon returning to her home in Freeport, she worked for L.L. Bean and retired after 24 years. She loved travel and adventure in any form. She traveled to England with her daughter Laurie and once spent a memorable New Year’s Eve in Havana, Cuba with her son Stephen and his wife Maryann.
Gladys had many friends and remained active and giving to the end. She enjoyed daily meetings with friends and former co-workers at The Sunrise Cafe and McDonald’s right up until the week she passed. She rarely missed these daily sessions filled with laughter and reminiscing.
She is survived by her daughter Laurie MacKinnon of Freeport, who was honored to provide her care in their home in her later years, son Clyde Bailey of Freeport, son Stephen Bailey and wife Dr. Maryann Bailey of Freeport, son Roland Davis and wife Betsy of Freeport, son Gary Bailey of Bowdoin. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; a brother Douglas Scammon and wife Marsha of Topsham.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Roland Davis; sons Richard Davis and Gerald Bailey; brothers Willis and Robert and sisters Christine and Lillian.
A celebration of her life will be decided at a later date.
