A three-car pileup on Interstate 295 in Falmouth resulted in a temporary shutdown of the northbound side of the highway during rush hour Friday afternoon.
No one was injured but one vehicle caught fire in the crash near mile marker 10 around 4:30 p.m., Lt. Aaron Turcotte of Maine State Police in a statement Friday night.
Emily Paskewicz, of Southport, was driving a Subaru sedan and failed to see that traffic had stopped ahead, Turcotte said.
The Subaru struck an Audi sedan driven by Daniel Antolovich of Storrs, Connecticut, Turcotte said, and the impact sent the Audi into a pickup truck, driven by Chad Greelee, of Richmond.
Paskewicz’s Subaru caught fire, Turcotte said, but Falmouth firefighters quickly extinguished it.
Traffic was diverted off the highway at Exit 10 until the right northbound lane was reopened at 5:30 p.m., state police said on social media. The roadway was cleared and both lanes were reopened as of about 6:10 p.m., state police said in an update.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
