Meet the local Gorham candidates at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Six Town Council candidates — Kelly Dearborn, incumbent Phil Gagnon, Charles Hamblen, Timothy O’Leary III, Samuel Purinton, and incumbent Seven Siegel — are are seeking three available seats. On the School Committee, two candidates — Jeffery Ballard and Lowansa Tompkins — are running for two seats. Each is a seven-member board and all the available seats are for three-year terms.

Only one candidate, Paulette Tateishi, is running for the one-year School Committee term.

Fall brush drop-off

The Public Works Department will accept brush next month from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on two Saturdays, Oct. 4 and Oct. 18, at the town garage at 80 Huston Road.

The drop-off is restricted to residents, only with no commercial drop-off.

Stumps will not be accepted, but leaves and grass clippings are accepted in the designated area throughout the season.

Historians to meet

Gorham Historical Society will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at its headquarters and museum in the restored Mosher Barn at 28 Cherry Hill Road, off Main Street.

The program, as of Sept. 22, had yet to be announced on the society’s fall meeting schedule posted on Facebook.

Medical equipment available for loan

The Medical Loan Closet at Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St., has a variety of equipment to loan out temporarily to town residents.

Items available include wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and scooters. For more information, call 839-3859.

50 years ago

The American Journal reported on Sept. 24, 1975, that Lorraine Afthim, of Robie Street, had a recent guest, her brother Arthur Afthim, who returned to the State University in Salisbury, Maryland, where he was majoring in physical education.
