A student crossing the street on his way to school in Bath was struck by a vehicle Monday morning, suffering minor injuries, according to police.

The 9-year-old was crossing Richardson Street in the crosswalk around 8:15 a.m. when a 32-year-old woman from Bath turned her Jeep left off High Street, striking the student, Bath Police Chief Andrew Booth said in a news release.

The student’s injuries weren’t believed to be serious, but he was taken to the hospital by ambulance, according to Booth. The crash remains under investigation.

“We would like to remind people that pedestrians have the right-of-way in a crosswalk, and motorists must pay close attention to their surroundings and expect the unexpected,” Booth said. “In turn, pedestrians should make the effort to ensure drivers of vehicles have seen and yielded to them before crossing the street.”
