Rene L. Gobeil
BIDDEFORD – Rene L. Gobeil, of Biddeford, died Sept. 18, 2025.
He was born on Dec. 12, 1924 to Napoleon and Belzemire (Gagne) Gobeil. He attended Biddeford schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On May 30, 1951, he married Suzanne Neveux at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, and St. Louis Alumni. As a young man, he enjoyed speed skating, becoming Maine state champion and placing third in the New England Championship held at the Boston Garden.
He worked at SLS for 15 years and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
He was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne Gobeil; his grandson, Evan; and his nine siblings and spouses.
He is survived by his daughters Jeanne Smith (Donald) of Meriden, Conn., Denise R. Gobeil of Biddeford, and Christine Meland (Roy) of Lansing, Mich.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
