Linda Arnold MacMillan
FALMOUTH – Linda Arnold MacMillan peacefully left us on June 28, 2025, at the age of 75, in Legacy Memory Care at OceanView in Falmouth.
Linda was born Sept. 6, 1949, in Oswego, NY to Kenneth A. and Louise M. Arnold. She grew up in New Canaan, Conn., and graduated from Albion College in Michigan, majoring in art education and French. In 1972, as a graduate student at Syracuse University, she met another grad student, Bruce MacMillan, and sparks flew! They were married in January 1973 in New Canaan, a beautiful partnership that lasted for 52 years.
She started her professional life as an elementary school teacher but then branched off into advertising sales for a local paper, walking in off the street to a business and walking out with a sale. Linda exuded charm, a quick wit, self-confidence and a ready laugh. With her determination and boundless energy, she easily moved into corporate communications, handling campaigns for national companies.
Linda and Bruce moved to Maine in 1998, first to Cumberland Center, and later to Phippsburg. Her career took her to L.L. Bean, The Highlands, Highland Green, Maine Maritime Museum, Maine Bank & Trust, People’s United Bank, Midcoast Parkview Health Services, and the Plant Memorial Home. Her last job took her career full circle, as a substitute teacher for the Bath area school district.
Most of her work involved creativity and sales, as she believed selling was really helping. With her sparkling personality combined with superb listening skills, she wasn’t just making sales but meaningful friendships as well.
Linda was an incredibly talented artist, and her home with Bruce is filled with her works in oil, watercolor, and needlepoint. She loved music (especially Motown hits played at full volume) and loved to dance. Linda, like Bruce, shared a love for dogs, and there was always at least one or maybe two in the MacMillan household.
It was only natural for her to volunteer in the community through leadership on the boards of Maine State Music Theatre and two Chambers of Commerce. Her energy and enthusiasm were simply contagious and are greatly missed.
At this time, the family would like to extend our gratitude to John Wasileski and the staff at Legacy, for all they did for our Linda. We also want to thank the staff of the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home in Bath for their kindness and professionalism.
Survivors include her husband Bruce MacMillan, her brother Gary Arnold and his wife Carol; nieces and nephews in the Arnold family; and sister-in-law Barry MacMillan.
A celebration of her incredible life will be Monday, Sept, 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Long Reach Hall, Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington Street in Bath.
