A man from New Jersey died while hunting in Somerset County on Tuesday.
David Ridgway, 69, of Bridgeton, New Jersey, was hunting a bear in northern Pierce Pond Township around 8 a.m. Tuesday, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said in a statement.
“Members of his hunting group performed CPR,” but Ridgway died at the scene, said department spokesman Mark Latti. He was carried out of the woods and transported to Wiles Funeral Home in Farmington, Latti said.
The incident is under investigation, and the cause of death was not declared on Tuesday.
Eustis Fire and Rescue, Carrabassett Valley EMT and the Maine Game Wardens responded to the scene.
